Richard Powell, M.D. has been the Medical Director and, more recently, Chief Medical Officer at MedPOINT since 2005. His responsibilities include clinical oversight of Utilization and Medical Management services. He provides peer-to-peer contact for medical professionals and is actively involved with numerous health plans throughout Southern California, serving on their Utilization, Credentialing and Pharmacy committees.

Dr. Powell is an active member of the California Association of Physician Groups and has done several projects with the California Quality Collaborative. He is also proud to have been invited to serve on the Integrated Physician Practice Section of the American Medical Association, formulating policy recommendations for the AMA.

Prior to moving to California, Dr. Powell was in medical practice in Houston, Texas. There he held an honorary position as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Powell was raised in South Florida prior to attending Harvard University where he was named a Harvard National Scholar. He returned home to attend the University of Miami School of Medicine and then did his post-graduate training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
